제 26회 W.C.Handy Blues Awards 수상자가 발표되었습니다
포스터에서 폼잡고 사진 한방 찍은건 Pinetop Perkins 입니다
이번 시상식에서 평생공로상을 받게되었는데 그냥 가긴 섭섭했는지
2개 부문을 수상했군여. 머 원래 꾸준히 상을 타가던 양반이긴 했지여
좀 아니다 싶었던 John Lee Hooker Jr.가 끝내 신인상을 거머쥐었고
Rod Piazza 밴드의 활약상이 한풀 꺾였는지 지난해에 이어 금년에도
올해의 밴드상을 놓치고 말았군여
B.B.King의 엔터테이너 수상은 여전하고, 매년 보이던 수상자 이름들도 여전합니다만
눈에 띄는 점은 역시 Mavis Staples인데 알짜베기 4개 부문을 수상했네여
아 글쎄 이 할머니는 또 누군가했더니만 Staple Singers의 리드싱어더군여. 크흐~
아직도 음악활동을 하다니 놀랍습니다. 내가 사실 흑인음악쪽은 잘 모르는데여
그래도 stax 레이블은 워낙 유명하져. stax 레이블에 몸담았던 주옥같은 아티스트가 참 많은데
Staple Singers도 그 중 하나였지여. 쟝르가 좀 애매모호하지만 소울/가스펠 정도라해야할까..
여하튼 이 그룹 리드싱어의 목소리는 정말 들을 때마다 입에서 감탄사가 절로 나오고
Touch A Hand, Make A Friend는 개인적으로 너무 좋아하는 노래이긴 합니다만
이번에 핸디 어워드에서 재미를 본 앨범 샘플 몇곡을 들어보니 왕년의 그 목소리는 아닙니다
그리고 죽을 때까지 그밖의 악기부문 수상을 놓치지 않을 듯 했던 Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown이
이번만큼은 Robert Randolph라는 뮤지션에게 밀렸네여. pedal steel guitar를 다룬다는데 뭔지 잘.. ㅡㅡ;;;
